Updates

This morning we discovered that Emma has developed jaundice, and so she has been placed under biliruben lights in the nursery to help her get better. This is the only complication Emma has really faced so far so we consider ourselves pretty fortunate.

It was however very difficult to let her go. We have had Emma staying in the room with us since she was born Monday night and we were pretty upset when they told us that she could no longer be with us 24/7. We understand she needs the treatment but our emotions got the best of us for a few minutes after we heard the news. For now we will have to settle on getting our Emma fixes by making frequent nursery visits and taking her back to the room for breast feedings (we have a portable light blanket used during these times.) This has delayed our progress in bringing Emma home they will reevaluate Emma tomorrow and decide for certain when she can go home.

Emma is eating and going potty as expected for her age, we are keeping a detailed log of her feedings and diapers because we want to make sure that she is getting enough nourishment from her feedings. So far everything is looking good.

Jen is doing well and will be discharged as an in-patient this evening, however we will not be leaving the hospital. The hospital has a "Bed and Breakfast Plan," which allows us to stay in our room until Emma is ready to go home. We will be utilizing this service for as long as it takes to bring Emma home. Jen does have some pain (of course) but is feeling pretty good overall. She is taking minimal pain meds and trying to get plenty of rest in between feedings.

We will update the blog more as we have more news.

Love

Jon & Jen

Yay! You have a blog. :) We're so excited to be able to stay up to date on the happenings of baby Emma. As far as I know, I think I had jaundice as a baby, too...I'm glad you guys get to stay near her.
Congratulations and we can't wait to meet little Emma!!

Jen & Jon, I love Emma's first picture "under the Lights." She is such a sweetheart. Give her kisses from Nana the next time she visits your room.
